Shower gift for MTB

I was invited to a baby shower recently and would like to get the MTB something off her registry, but I would also like to get something for her to use for herself as a new mom. Please post your suggestions. Here's what I came up with and would like you to add your ideas: a robe and/or slippers, breast cream she registered for a pump so I am assuming she will be BFing, a first year baby book of some sort. TIA for your ideas.

Above any material things...I think a maid service or a gift card to a place that delivers would be useful.  I had a cs and those first two weeks I didn't do any cleaning and didn't cook...it was all on my H.

You could make her a little hospital bag- get a nice makeup bag and fill with tums, hard candy, mints, facial wipes, hair ties, lip balm, mini brush, mouthwash, a little back massager, fuzzy slipper socks with tread, and fancy mini bath products.

A gift certificate for a prenatal massage or a pedicure would probably go over very well in the third trimester.

Ditto PPs suggestion for meals or a maid if you can afford it- the first few weeks are rough and it's hard to do anything besides keep baby alive!

I've given the MTB's (along with the DTB's) something twice and both times the showers happen to be after the LO was born.  One couple are big movie fans so I gave them a GC plus to a theater near them along with a GC (made by me) for babysitting services.  The other couple love to shoot pool so I did their basket with a GC to their fav place making it plenty for them to eat dinner there.  I also added the babysitting GC.  I was taken up on the offer both times!

I have also given (only 3 times) a GC for a massage (maternity) and the MTB's loved it.  One started getting them weekly.  lol

I gave my sister (and BIL) a gift certificate for a couple's massage, a gift certificate for a really good local restaurant with awesome pastries, and complimentary babysitting.  They loved having a date night on me.

Thanks for the suggestions,

I have given a friend a gift certificate to a restaurant that does take out so that she or her DH didn't have to cook, but since I am getting this FTM something decently big off her registry, I will probably go with the idea of the hospital bag items. I wanted to get her something that she could use that isn't too pricey. Thanks again for the ideas and if anyone else has any suggestions, they would be very much appreciated.

If she is a coffee drinker, coffee is always a *fantastic* postpartum gift.  If you know for sure she is nursing, Soothies are wonderful.  I hate spending money on them, but they are so nice in those first few days.  Not sure if this was mentioned in the hospital bag items, but facial wipes/cleansing cloths are good in the beginning too.

Those are great ideas--and here's another thought:  Do you live locally?

If so, consider making a coupon book of things you can do when the baby arrives, things like:

"One free shower while (gift giver) holds the baby!"

"Delivery of cocoa/tea/coffee of MTB's choice!"

"One load of laundry (folded too!) done by (gift giver)"

These are all things that will cost you (almost) nothing but as a mom with a newborn I would have LOVED.
