How to force myself to drink more...?

Hello All!

I am  7 weeks and 3 days today. I have never ever been a drinker. I can go all day without drinking much. How did you force yourself to drink more during pregnancy? My Dr. said drinking more will ease my morning symptoms but I just can not force myself... Before morning sickness I had a thing for milk, bu that stopped. Plain water makes me gag bc to me it smells like i got it from a pond. No matter if its bottled or filtered. I can live with sparkling water with a little lemon. And I love soooda but Dr. said its a no no. I am on the edge of duck-taping a bottle to my hand.. ;) Any ideas?

If the only thing that is appetizing is the sparkling water I would drink that.  I started with cucumber water, switched to lemon water, and now I'm just on bottled water.  I get bored easily of eating and drinking the same thing so I'm just focusing on what sounds appealing each morning.

you could try the lipton (if you like tea) or crystal light packets added to your water if you absolutely can not drink plain water. You should be drinking close to a gallon a day. I literally carry around a gallon jug to be sure Im getting enough.

The best thing I can think of to "force" yourself is to remind yourself its not negotiable, your baby needs you to drink water, going all day without hardly drinking anything is not a good idea.

Best of luck!

Why is soda a no no?

I have hypermesis gravidum, and soda is the only thing I can really drink besides lemonaide. My doc says it is fine, just limit the caffeine. I.e. root beer is my caffeine free friend!

Vitamin water always helped me.  Or watered down iced tea.  The only time I can drink plain water is when I workout.

Fourtunantly, I have not had this problem. I am so thirsty all the time.  I feel like I cannot get enough water. Have you tried adding the Crystal Light packets to your water or Propel packets so your water has flavor?

Yes I had. The issue is not really what to drink but how to make myself drink more of it. I was thinking I should set an alarm in my phone to say water and buzz every 20 minutes, but I can't really use my phone at work.. :-/

I've always been a "drinker"... I'm never without water.  But I saw a cute idea on Pinterest where someone had two water bottles and wrote markers in two hour increments.  This way you know that by 10 AM, you should have finished XX ounces and so on for the rest of the day.  Fill 'em up with sparkling lemon water and give it a try!

I try to set little goals...i.e by the time I finish this report, I'm going to finish this glass of water (and then chug it at the end if I need to).  Or get a big water bottle and fill with whatever you like, and have a goal for it to be half way empty after lunch, 3/4 empty by the time you leave for home, and totally empty by the time you go to bed.

I alternate water and juice. I dring about 64oz of water a day and about 16oz of juice. I allow myself to have one soda a day, but it must be caffiene free. I am still not getting the required amount of liquid, but I also eat a lot of fruit and vegetables that are filled with water. I keep a water bottle right next to my keyboard to remind me to drink it. I think for me its easy, I know that staying hydrated is important for the baby, and right now I need to put my baby's needs before my own.

I can't bring myself to drink tap water (never had been a problem before), but filtered water is ok.  I like water with lemon or mineral water with a little bit of juice added to it (about an oz of juice per 8 oz water).

Those Crystal Light packets really help, but they do contain aspartame. You want to watch how much of that stuff you consume. I've been using Mio Fit, which makes the water taste like Gatorade and provides some extra B6 and B12. Juice is also good - I've been drinking a lot of apple juice and it may not be the best thing, but it sure is tasty!

This is what I was going to suggest!

Make sure you keep a water bottle with you.  Yesterday I drank about 80 oz. bc I remembered my bottle. Today I forgot it, so I've only drank about 32 oz. so far.

I second the PP that suggested cucumber in your water...there's nothing like it!

I am the same way with gagging over plain water.  I have taken to putting Countrytime Lemonade mix in my water or actual lemon wedges until it's really tart.

Maybe try a cup with a straw? I find a drink more when I can sip while I'm doing something else than when I have to stop and tilt back a bottle. Seems stupid, but it works.

This! I do much better with taking in water when I have a straw. I have a nice insulated water bottle with a straw that works really well. I think it's an Eco vessel.
