Thyroid problem :(

I got a call from my doctor's office yesterday and my thyroid is irregular. I'm freaking out, I never had this problem before. I'm not sure yet if it's too low or too high. Does anyone have some advice?

Calm down, I have hypothyroidism, basically a very low functioning thyroid. They will probably try to regulate your thyroid and have you do regular blood work to check that your levels are ok during your whole pregnancy. Many women have this, don't worry. The baby and yourself will be ok. It's only dangerous if you go around untreated.

this - I have hypothyroidism also - its very easily treated with medication - some women only get it during pregnancy so it may go away after you have the baby but until then take your meds and you will be fine!

Same. I have to get b/w every 4 weeks or so to check the levels. It will be ok. Just make sure you follow up so it can be treated if necessary.

I received a similar call from my OB about a month ago. My TSH levels came back low, so I went in for another blood panel the following day. My TSH levels were still low but my FreeT4 levels were in the mid-normal range. Since I haven't had thyroid "problems" in the past, my OB is thinking this may just be related to early pregnancy and we will continue to monitor my levels through blood draws and talk medication if my FreeT4 levels change. Definitely scary when you haven't been exposed to it in the past and know nothing about thyroids so I feel ya.

I started having problems with my TSH levels as well.  My doctor put me on medication and has been monitoring my levels.  Since starting medication, I've been much better and everything's been fine.

What PPs said.. I was born without a thyroid... they will do some tests, run some blood and get you on the appropriate medication.  No worries. relax! It wll take some tinkering but all will be fine.
