glucose teat again at 35wks baby measuring big

Hi everyone! I don't write often but this has me kind of annoyed/confused. So I had a Dr in GA and was going to the until 33wks when we moved to ny. I did my 3hr glucose test around 25wks or so and passed.. well baby had been measuring big since around that time so at 30wks they did a growth ultrasound and he was measuring about 3wks ahead. We moved to ny 2 weeks ago and I had my 1st appt wed..I wad measuring big just like I told them I would so they did an ultrasound and said he is approx 2wks ahead and his belly is about 45wks ahead and he weighs approx 7.5oz! Wowza! So they said he could just be big or I have gestational diabetes..at this point I did not want to take that stupid test again especially since my weight gain is perfectly normal and my diet is health but per drs orders I did and passed. Sry for the long story but I'm confused as to why they made me take it if is already taken it and if anyone else's babies have been so big? Especially the belly.. they said nothing looks wrong but of course it still worries me. On a happier note the ultrasound showed that he finally flipped which I guessed because he did it so late and his so big that it was a horrible kind of pain! I'm so scared for him to get any bigger.. I'm only 4'11 I can't support much more baby! Any words of support are much appreciated! Thanks :

My baby is measuring ahead by two weeks and is supposedly 5 lbs 4 oz according to our ultrasound today. The tech said it could be off by a half pound either way so their measurement might not be entirely accurate.

As for the glucose test your doctor was probably just being cautious and wanted to make sure there was nothing going on that they needed to be treating.

That being said, a big baby is not the end of the world. My friend's mom delivered him naturally and he was an 11 lb baby and she is your height. It can be done and your doctor will make sure it happens safely.

Hello,

I too took the 3 hour and passed, but at 35 weeks my baby was estimated at 7 lbs 7 oz.  He never mentioned checking glucose again.  My doctor just said it didn't really matter since I am scheduled to have a c-section anyway.  My weight gain has been acceptable, though not great.  I thought my doctor was overly cautious, but it would appear that yours is more so!

I'd be annoyed too.  That test is awful.

Did you have your medical records transferred to your new doctor? If you have not, maybe they want to run their own test, just to be sure. If you have, then I think you are well within your rights to decline further testing. My doctor does the glucose test at 28 weeks, so I am not sure if there is a difference from 25 to 28 weeks. Either way, if you passed before and you truly do not have GD, then you will pass again. It cant hurt to do it as.a precaution, albeit annoying.

I agree with PPs that your new OB was just being extra cautious.

It is possible to develop GD later in pregnancy so s/he probably just wanted to make sure all was well, as of course uncontrolled GD has potentially dangerous sideeffects.

Annoying, but I'd rather my OB be cautious than potentially ignore something that could make my baby unhealthy.
