How to break up with my MW?

So I've found a funny, awesome doctor I'm comfortable with to follow my pregnancy and delivering my baby. The one thing I'm worried about is breaking up with my midwife. I've been trying to write her an e-mail for an hour and don't know what to say. Help??

Also, even though I want to be respectful I don't want to do the whole it's not you it's me thing because we really weren't treated very well at all.

Don't bother. Just let your doctor request your records. Your midwife is going to be 100% booked up no matter what you think of her.

''Great news MW! I found someone else to handle my case! Feel free to take on another client or have a day off.''

"What are you having?" "Well the radiologist says its a healthy little human baby. I'm a little disappointed, because I really wanted a puppy." LOL

"I've decided I would feel more comfortable with an OB. I need to cancel x appt, and x doc will be requesting my records soon."

If I recall your situation correctly, I would call her and tell her of the situation you had last week (or whenever it was) and explain that you don't feel comfortable with the level of care you were being given and that you have found someone that you feel can offer that level of care.  Remember to specify that it was an after-hours emergency and you weren't able to reach anyone to get any sort of advice.

In your case, I'd say they need to hear this so they can make changes so it doesn't happen to anyone else.  Otherwise I'd say just not ignore them and have your new Dr. request your records.  Also be sure to cancel any outstanding appointments you have.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

Ditto all of this!

Let them know what went wrong so that hopefully they can make changes and not treat another person that way.

Yeah, if you were the one with that after hours issue, then I totally agree with the above!

They provide you a service. You weren't satisfied. I don't even think you owe them an explanation. Just have your OB get your records from them and cancel the appointment.

I would do the same as well. And, if it's in an e-mail, that's a lot easier to "say" than if you were to meet with your midwife face-to-face. You can still be respectful but honest.

I switched obs very early on due to some office management issues (sad, because I liked the OB -- she's just no good to me if I can't get through to her or her assistant in a timely manner).  I just called to cancel the appt and was prepared to explain if they asked. They didn't, but the office manager called me a couple days later at obs request. I explained fully at that point.
