My husband's aunt (Who finally un-friended me for calling her out on it) is famous for horrible Facebook statuses. Here are the top three (paraphrased):
1. OMG, So DH and I were waiting to get on our plane, minding our own business, when a group of Arab men wearing their long robes and turbans came and sat across us. I am now praying. (This was post 9-11 and she 'defended her statement later saying they could have been terrorists)
2. I can't remember the exact post, but she made one of those "A priest a rabbi, and a .... walk into a bar kind of jokes. But it included an Atheist and something not very nice happened to the Atheist while the other religions went to heaven or some such. My husband is an Atheist, I am a Spiritual Agnostic. She is a Mormon. We are nice and generally don't discuss religion with each other to respect each others beliefs because she gets very heated about religion. We told her this joke was very offensive and she couldn't understand why. We pointed out that we don't make Mormon jokes because they would be insulting to her... and she was like "Oh you just don't understand, it's different" and "Well, this country is all about freedom of speech and it was a joke."
3. Finally the posts that made her un-friend me:
~OMG Obama Won! I'm going to pray for this country.
~I wish someone would take care of Obama.
Essentially she continually made comments regarding Obama's welfare and our country's welfare and how she hoped the terrorists didn't descend upon the country in out 'time of weakness." I try not to get political with people, but I called her out on speaking so unkindly. I don't care if you don't like the presidential winner, but you need to be respectful.
She proceeded to un-friend me, tell me I was too negative and disrespectful of HER and that I have never truly attempted to be part of the family even though SHE has tried so hard to include me... I have been with my DH since 2001... so 11 years and married to him 3.5... I have maybe been around her 22 times and those were holidays and she never once tried to actually sit down with me or hand out with me. Needless to say, I am actually much happier now that I don't have to see her bigoted posts.
