Saline Sonogram

I had an HSG done when we first started with the RE. Now that we are going to start IVF, I am going to have a saline sonogram done. What's been everyone's experience with this?  Was it painful?  I ask because the HSG was pretty painful for me so I'm a little nervous.

Thanks!

I thought the SHG was pretty easy. Getting the catheter in was the worst part, once they figured that out (they needed the super extra small one, I guess I have a tight cervix haha) the rest was pretty easy and quick.

Mine went just fine and my HSG was painful. The only cramping I had was when the nurse pushed the saline in too fast, but it was quick!

My first one was pretty painful for me, but I had a band of scar tissue from the top to the bottom that wasn't allowing the uterus to expand. My second one was much easier, and I just had a 3rd one in the beginning of the month that wasn't as bad as the first, but it was uncomfortable. The HSG I had right before my first SHG  and because of the the HSG was much easier for me than the SHG.

From what I understand, my experience is out of the normal. Most of the women on here frind the SHG much easier than the HSG. GL!

My first one hurt...a lot. I switched REs and he wanted to repeat the test. He gave me Valium to relax me and the ute and it didn't hurt at all. If you are nervous, maybe ask for the Valium?

The HSG and SHG experience were the same for me, painful. But of course that was due to my tube blockage

my first saline was pretty painful---i had a vasovagal response and almost passed out. =(    second one i took 3 advils an hour before and it was ok-- no problems.  if you are super sensitive getting your cervix messed with or have a low pain threshold, you can ask for something more (aka valium)!   but really taking a big dose of ibuprofen should work.

I had my SIS last week. It went very well. I have a sensitive cervix, and whenever anything touches it (paps included) i have bleeding afterward. For me, the SIS was uncomfortable and painful enough that I needed to take deep breaths to get through the part with the saline infusion. I think every woman is different, but deep breaths (slow in, slow out) really helped me. It also goes really quickly! It only takes maybe a maximum of 10 minutes. The vaginal ultrasound occurs simultaneously and it all goes really quickly. Following, you'll be a little bit "leaky" so you'll want to wear a pad. I had minimal cramping following it, just like period cramps, but they were gone by the evening. MY RE told me to take 600mg of advil/ibuprofen beforehand. I'm glad that I did...and then I came home and enjoyed a glass of wine. :)

I'm sure it will go well for you - just think "crampy at worst, maybe not much of any feeling at best!" That oughta get you through it. :) GL!

Not to freak you out because I know some women don't have any trouble but mine was pretty painful. The catheter part wasn't too bad but the injection of the saline was really painful for me. :( I had to drie myself so wasn't able to take a Valium. If I ever have to do it again I'm going o definitely get some meds. For me, it was similar to the HSG but the HSG wasn't as quick.
