Laying on back...

I have always slept on my stomach but that is now very uncomfortable. I now feel the most comfort on my back and wake up in this position often. Is there a specific week where you should avoid laying on your back? I also find myself relaxing this way on the couch, but find it is more comfortable with my knees bent. Is this safe?

 Thanks!

as you get bigger, that will be uncomfortable as well. I'd start getting used to side sleeping little by little

I have the same problem of being a stomach sleeper. I'll be so sad when I can't sleep on my stomach anymore (mostly because I think i will have difficulty falling and staying asleep). When I lay on the couch I tend to lay on my back with my knees up too, it does seem to hurt a bit less than with them straight out. But even then on my side is more comfortable.

I can't remember which week they say you shouldn't sleep on your back though :-/

You're body will tell you when it isn't comfortable anymore. I wouldn't worry about it, you can't control how you sleep after you actually fall asleep but your body will wake you up if needed.

I already find it really uncomfortable to lie on my back, not really because of the belly but because of the added breast pressure when they flop to the sides.  :)  At some point you'll get to the time when being on your back isn't comfortable.

I'm also a stomach sleeper and I've found kind of half-lying on a pillow is the most comfortable position for me.  Have you tried that yet?  I ordered a My Brest Friend body pillow which should be here Monday that I'm hoping will help me get more comfortable.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

My doctor told me to avoid laying on my back for long periods of time at 20 weeks, I've heard by that point is uncomfortable to do that anyways.

Meh. I am a side sleeper and I still wake up on my back pretty often.  Not much you can do when you are asleep!

Sleep in whatever position allows you to sleep. Your body will let you know if it's a good idea to adjust.

My OB told me to stop sleeping on my back at 16 weeks.

I've been sleeping on my side, but my hips start to hurt because of the pressure. The Snoogle pillow seems to help but it's cumbersome and gets hot. Plus it takes up a lot of space in a queen-sized bed.
