New Mom, I need some advice...

I am not sure what to do, my baby will be a month on the 30th and I have been so nervous with this flu season and making sure no one sees him who is sick. But just yesterday he has gotten a bad stuffy nose and he gags when it drips down his throat. He sounds like he is snorting when he is breathing, should I take him to urgent care or am I just paranoid?

I would call your pediatrician and ask if they want you to bring them in. The pediatrician should be open today Monday and are a better choice than urgent care because they know how to treat a baby of that age where Urgent Care might not. Now if your baby is having trouble breathing then by all means take them to ER right away. It's unclear from your post whether baby is just stuffed up or is having problems breathing. Also take the shirt off and look at the chest to see if baby is retracting when breathing, pulling in deeply on the sides of the chest. A little pulling is normal, really deep pulling is not. I hope I explained that OK.

I agree. Call you pedi, they will know  better if anything needs to be treated. I was in the same boat this past week. This is the second time my LO was congested, but this time he started developing a cough. Took him to his pedi and it turns out he has a sinus infection. Poor guy :( But this weather sure does not help. He's been a bit stuffy this past month in general. I'm ready for spring!

Hope your LO feels better soon!

I'd call your pedi.

My girl had the same thing at 2 weeks it was reall scary. I took two steamy showers a day with her to help loosen things up and ran the humidifier. I was really freaking out over it. Also if it is dripping down they can gag on it. She did some big spitting up while she had her cold and her cry was the saddest ever. Sick babies break my heart! We had not even taken her to a public place :

I agree to call your ped to ask but if its just congestion you're probably going to be better off at home anyway. MY son was congested at 2 weeks. I ran a cool mist humidifier, propped him up when sleeping, and used saline/suctioned his nose. I called to check with my doc to see if I should do something else or bring him in and they said we were better off not brining him in because of all the excess germs and sick kids in the office. Babies that little can't be medicated so there's not much else to do but try to comfort them and wait it out.

Like PP said though, check for retractions and if its a breathing issue, not just congestion, definitely take him in immediately

This happened to DS when he was about 2 weeks old too.  It was very scary and we took him to the pediatrician.  We wound up with the humidifier and using saline to help break it all up.  So sad to hear a 2 week old sneeze.  :(

I don't think it's something you need to go to urgent care for. Just see your pediatrician. They probably won't put your LO on anything unless they have a fever or ear infection. It's probably just a little cold.

Take his temp and make sure he doesn't have a fever. If not, you're probably fine. If you are worried though, call your ped and see if you can discuss on the phone to decide if it is worth going in (probably not as you're more likely to be exposed to bad stuff in the office than anywhere!). With ds, I was able to keep all germs away, but now having a 2 yr old in the house makes that impossible. It freaks me out still though! Ds had a horrible GI illness last week that has now morphed into a terrible congested cough. We're going on 2 weeks... So far dd is ok, but it's scary.

I would call his doctor who would probably need to see/diagnose your baby.  With the flu/cold season being the way it is, I would not take any chances.  I would feel better getting confirmation from a doctor for peace of mind.
