XP: Car Seat Cover in March?

I got a Bundle Me for my shower. I had registered for the JJ Cole car seat cover, but the guest bought the Bundle Me in error. I will not use it, so I plan to exchange. My question is, I live in Maryland, and baby is due mid-March. I'm not sure, climate-wise, if the car seat cover is even necessary, and if I could get by with warm clothing and a blanket when out and about. I am sure we won't be out and about a ton in the first few weeks, and by then, it may be getting warmer.

I really could use the exchange money to buy some essentials, like bottles, nipples, etc. that I didn't get at my shower. I'm not sure if a car seat cover is necessary in March...WDYT?

My due date is March 2 and I'm going to be delivering early due to pre-e (they won't let me go past 37w) and I'm still not planning on getting a carseat cover. I probably would have gotten one for a late Oct-mid Jan baby, after that I don't think it's necessary since by the time we're out a lot it will be warming up. We got a thin fleece suit that will safely work in the carseat and will add blankets over it when needed.

Check out the bundle me lite.  I live in the Northeast and due in April.  I figure there  are still plenty of chilly April days here and the bundle me lite is just easier then having to worry about a coat.   My plan is to just keep in packaged - and if don't use it, return it.

yeah - sorry i totally  missed the question.  Probably not necessary if there are other things you still need.  Just easier then having to bundle up with clothes but you can definitely work around it

The bundle me lite is not safe to use in a carseat. Anything that goes behind the baby and around the harness straps has not been crash tested by the carseat manufacturer as safe to use with their seat and is therefore considered unsafe. It will void the warranty and if you then have an accident and the carseat fails you will have no recourse even if it had nothing to do with the aftermarket product you used.

I don't think you'll need it right away. If your baby still fits in the infant seat by winter, you can always buy one. Walmart has a version that's $16-20.

Thanks ladies!

The reason I am returning the Bundle Me is because of the safety issues. I had actually registered for the car seat cover, not the Bundle Me.

I live in Boston and DS was born in early November.  I thought I would need the JJ Cole car seat cover , but honestly, I haven't had the need for it (well, no one bought it for us and I didn't buy it myself).  When we go out, I put DS in long sleeve clothes + socks + hat, then I put 2 blankets over him (a thin A&A blanket + a thicker fleece blanket), and he's warm enough even for outdoor walks at 30F.  If it's a windy day, I place a carseat cover (those "free" ones I got) to block out the wind.  I'd say save your money for something else.

P.S. if you find yourself really needing one after your LO is born, you can always get one then (or buy one cheaply off craigslist.. there are always TONS of them for sale on CL).

I had the same debate for a long time.  I live in Chicago and my baby is due mid-March.  I decided against keeping the JJ cole carseat cover.  When I looked at reviews, many people said that they like them b/c of convenience but these covers aren't really THAT warm.  To me, it seems like it's not much warmer than a nice thick blanket.

I agree, if my baby were due in the fall or early winter, I probably would have kept mine since we would be out in the winter much more.  But I'm going to go with a thick blanket instead.

If it does end up being abnormally cold, you could just drape a blanket over it when your going in & out.
