Hello Sausage Fingers!

All of a sudden out of nowhere, my hands are starting to swell (my feet a little too...but not as bad) Is this normal? Anything I can do to decrease the swelling?

My fingers swell all the time also. It doesn't help that fact I sit behind a computer all darn day! Anyway, I am always told to drink plenty of water... my feet/ankles are just now starting to swell. I can't wait to get home to put my feet up, for sure :)

Make sure you're getting enough water!

And watch your blood pressure, I've recently had a close friend and a cousin diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and things escalated very quickly. My friend had to have emergancy csection at 29 weeks, and my cousin had one at 33 weeks. Both babies are fine and healthy now! But I remember both of them saying that they started swelling, and then their blood pressures went up. Just a lookout for you.

I have my dr's appointment tomorrow, so I will be keeping an eye out on my blood pressure, which so far has been excellent. It doesn't help that I have to type all day.

Mine are bad today too and my ring is already stuck on!  We're having a heat wave in Chicago so I think it's the humidity that's doing it for me.

Mild to moderate swelling in pregnancy is perfectly normal and to be expected. My wedding rings came off at about 32 weeks and this weekend, at 33 weeks, I had to go get new shoes 1/2 size bigger than usual. My sister had swelling so bad in the 3rd tri that she could only wear socks and slippers comfortably.

It is important to note that very SUDDEN and severe swelling (including more of the body than just feet and hands usually) can be a sign of pre-e, so make sure you keep your doctors appointments. If you have sudden swelling or it becomes severe, call your doctor. It also couldn't hurt to take a trip to the drug store and have your BP taken in one of those machines.  I actually bought myself a $20 home BP machine to keep tabs on my pressure; I check it every day. But it sounds like the kind you are having is to be expected.

I've noticed an increase in the last few days- I didn't wear my compression socks on Saturday and took them off at around 7 last night and I think that was a mistake. I'm in Texas and it's been really humid and then today it's 77 outside so I'm thinking maybe this had something to do with it. Keep your water intake up and if you notice a drastic change call your OB right away. Minor swelling in your hands and feet is common, and I read today if you notice a 4 lb gain within a week, or have facial swelling or extreme swelling in hands/feet call your OB right away.
