Middle name for Avery!?

I just love the name Avery for a boy and have finally found a name my husband actually likes. I also like it for a girl but that's not what this post is about. Okay so my husband's first legal name is James.  So I have always wanted to use James as a middle name. I am not too sure now because Avery James just doesn't have the rhythm I am looking for. Maybe I need time to get used to them together!? Any other middle names that would sound good with Avery?

  1. Avery James
  2. Avery Lane
So that is what I have come up with so far on my own. Hubs is at work right now and I can't ask him for suggestions and I thought this may be fun to see what other suggestions there may be. :D Thanks for your input.  And sorry for such a long post

ah, Avery on a boy.  I love it.

I'm going to give you the same advice that we'd give to someone considering putting Avery a girl.  Pick a very gender specific middle name.

Lane could go either way (although I think of it a boy's name).

With James, there's no question.

I like the flow of Avery James, honestly.

I like Avery James better than Avery Lane. James is obviously masculine, but Lane gives you two unisex names.

Also, don't James and Lane have exactly the same rhythm (one syllable and long A)?

I agree 100% with Joy.  I love that you're using Avery for a boy, but since it's gone unisex, I think the middle name needs to be very masculine.  Avery James sounds fine to me.

I think Avery James has a much nicer flow and sounds much more masculine than Avery Lane.

I am so glad you mentioned that! I did not think about both being unisex. Great advice thanks so much!

Avery James is a great name. I agree with PP, Avery Lane sounds too feminine.

I Love Avery James and would use that.  Technically Avery Lane could go either way so I would avoid that.

I agree with PPs about wanting a masculine MN and I think James sounds great. I also think having it be your DHs name makes it more meaningful.

This exactly.  And I love the flow of Avery James.  Just has a nice ring to it.

I will 100% agree with both of you. Another vote for Avery James. Great name, btw.

I prefer Avery James, IDK why Avery Lane seems more feminine.

yeah, like PP have said. Avery James is good, especially because it is obviously masculine.

This was my thought, too. I don't have a suggestion at the moment, but I think you're better off picking a make specific MN. Avery is actually a top contender for me if I have a girl! It's a great name both ways. :)

Yea to Avery for a boy.  My DH and I both like this for a boy, but DH doesn't like that it's become a popular girls name.  And we have a friend with a daughter named Avery.  The more people who name their boys Avery the better!

I definitely like the combo of Avery James.

One thing that did pop in my head as a note of recognition is the name of actor James Avery (Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince), but that's not a bad thing, just a note.

I think Avery James flows well, but when I read the title the first thing popped into my head was Avery Lane. :)  So I say either works, but I kind of agree with PP who said that when you use a fn that goes either way, that picking a more gender specific middle name might be something to consider.

Rebecca :)
