Hospital cost XP

This post could be for BTDT moms or ladies that are further along in second tri and have actually inquired with the hospital. I just got my bill from my OB today. At first I thought it wasn't that bad (770) but then it was brought to my attention that is just my doctor and I will get a bill from the hospital, anestesiologist(sp?), etc. So my question is how much did you pay out of pocket for just the hospital portion? I know it will vary by area but just a ballpark would be nice. I am getting a short term disability check once my maternity leave kicks in so I know that will help with the hospital bill. My OB bill is due in April though...eesh!! I have definitely thought about moving to Canada...

Let me start by saying that I have an HRA instead of a PPO.  My bill at my OB was $1100, not including labwork or other diagnostics like ultrasounds.  I talked to the hospital just this week and it looks like I will be owing them around $1000 also; $1500 for a c-section.  Of course, with the different types of insurance I'm sure things can be extremely variable.

I have a PPO.  I think we paid about $1500 out of pocket.  We were not billed separately between ob and hospital.

Gosh I cant remember the exact but it was thousands. We paid like 2k before they would even accept me into the hospital to deliver and then another 1 or 2k after. My OBGYN was only 300 bucks. But I also had a csection which cost a little more.

$20 - this includes all appointments and L&D.

It should really just vary by what insurance you have. I would talk to your insurance provider and ask what is covered and what is not. It may be that you have a deductible that you have to reach before they will pay 100%.

I had to pay for my OB visits up front to the total of $880. I have to pay for u/s at $150 each and there will be at least 4 of them (already had 2). We have figured the hospital bill will be around $3,000. Yeah, it stinks to pay so much but it's better than being uninsured.

I had awesome insurance last time and everything from OB to hospital cost under 300. This time I'm looking at closer to 3,000. It all depends on your policy.

I don't have a deductible and I pay 20 percent of OB costs. Original bill was 3800, I'm responsible for 770 but I'm not sure if its the same for the hospital. I guess I won't know until I inquire with the hospital.

I'm a FTM so I haven't been through the hospital yet, but I agree with PP that it depends on your insurance.  In my situation, we pay a $1300 deductable before the insurance will cover anything.  Once we pay that the insurance covers 80%.  Once we hit $3000 out of pocket we are not charged for anything further for the duration of the year.

Does your insurance have a website?  I have blue cross blue shield and I can go on their website and it has a place for estimating costs - search for labor/delivery  and it tells me that the avg cost in the area is about $11,000 and then gives me my estimated costs (in my case $300 copay).  That doesn't include OB - obviously your hospital will be able to give you a better idea but maybe check your insurance's website for a general idea.

I have great insurance so I pay nothing but I know I got what would have been the bill and it was about $12,000. I would call th insurance company so you can be prepared.

From my DS's birth in 2005, I remember paying for the following in separate bills or separate transactions:

OB bill
2nd OB bc of csection
Anesthesiologist
Pediatrician to the hospital
Hospital Send Out Lab
Hospital care
Private room daily up charge, which was due at check out

...I don't remember what it cost in total.
But, this time around, I doubt it will cost as much as we've spent to GET pregnant!

There are too many variables to give you an estimate. It depends on where you live and what kind of insurance you have, for starters.

I think we paid close to $2,000 out of pocket for DD's OB visits and delivery/hospital stay, but I know people that have paid much more, and some that have paid nothing at all.

We were billed separately. My OB is $3000 for a vaginal delivery, but I only pay 10%, so $300. My hospital is also 10%-- if I am not mistaken, we paid somewhere in the market of $1,200 to the hospital, but they let us make payments, so that was great!

I am paying for everything out of pocket, even though we have really good PPO insurance it doesn't cover maternity. My OB bill is 2,900 and the hospital will be 4,700 but the anesthesiologist will be a separate bill. The hospital does a special maternity 'package' that must be paid in full before discharge, otherwise the bill is around 12,000. What you pay out of pocket will depend on your insurance, your OB and what hospital you deliver at.

It varies widely depending on your insurance. I paid a $10 co-pay at my first appointment and that covers all of my prenatal appointments/sonos as well as L&D.

You really need to call your insurance to find out what you're going to owe.

With DD we knew we'd owe around $900, all said and done, and made sure to have that money set aside in our FSA.

My insurance (BCBS federal) paid for everything maternity (all visits, labs, sonograms, specialists, NT scan, etc.) and I paid a $150 copay for my hospital stay. It will be the same for this baby. I did get a breakdown of costs afterwards however to show what they paid and it was almost $11k and I had a pretty "normal" delivery. As others have said, I would call your insurance and get all of the information now so that you know exactly what you will owe.

Yea, we pay the OB $780 for office visits + delivery. This doesn't include ultrasounds and all that jazz. So we paid $250 for one u/s and $45 for the other.

We will pay probably about $1500-$2200 to the hospital.

MY OB's office gives all new prenatal patients (each pregnancy) a sheet that details how much the dr. and hospital charges will be approximately depending on vaginal or c-section delivery. I think it ranges from $2500 for med-free vaginal delivery to $5 or$6,000 for an emergency c-section? Something like that.

I have group insurance and will pay $50 out of pocket for all prenatal visits, around $200 co-pay for my hospital stay and about $200 co-pay for baby's hospital stay.

I paid about $8,000 out of pocket (technically still paying it 19 months later) thanks to my private health insurance that doesn't cover maternity expenses.

I paid 0.

I have no deductible and all maternity care is covered at 100%. I would've had to pay $100 per day for when I was int he hospital to deliver, but I'm a hospital employee and they have a special program for us if we deliver there. All costs covered as well as a private room. And the bonus is, it's an excellent hospital.

The total bill that the insurance paid was around $38,000. Unplanned c-section and 3 day NICU stay for DD included. So thankful for insurance!

Gosh I cant remember the exact but it was thousands. We paid like 2k before they would even accept me into the hospital to deliver and then another 1 or 2k after. My OBGYN was only 300 bucks. But I also had a csection which cost a little more.

 Is that even legal?
