That is kind of harsh. I've never been asked when my next expected period is, only LMP, and even then they almost always make me POAS when I get there to confirm everything. I've also been told that HPTs are just as valid as the ones they use, and a positive is still a positive.
That said I know of a lot of doctors that don't want to see you until at least 10 weeks... it's frustrating but there isn't much they can do throughout the whole first trimester, especially when they can safely assume you are going to have a healthy pregnancy. Early testing and ultrasounds tend to be reserved for women with a long history of losses and other complications (like IVF) that need monitoring from day 1.
I wouldn't be too worried about not seeing your doctor until second tri. The normal stuff in first tri is easily performed by a nurse since it's mostly blood pressure, weigh ins and blood tests. Congratulations!
