First name help

So my hubby and I have a middle name we love and plan to use- Hosannah. We already call the baby by the nickname "Zannah". I dont want to use this for a first name because of the chance of classmates calling her "Ho"...

We have a few first name options we are considering...

Jaelyn (we like because daddy is Jason and called "Jay" by friends, and her initials would be the same as dad- JHT)

Malen/Maylin/Maelyn (Our birthdays and wedding was in May- a very special month for us)

 Emelyn (just pretty)

But besides trying to find a pretty/cute first name, I also once long ago toldmy mother I would name my first daughter after her. Her name is AeCha (pronounced AY-JAH) and her grandmother used to call her Jah-yah for short.... so somehow I want to incorporate her name... but can't find a nice way to do it, unless I eliminate Hosannah as a middle name because I don't want AeCha to be her first name. I want her first name to be more americanized.

Any help here??

The only person I've known that went by Zanna was named Susanna. Could you use Susanna nn Zanna and your mothers name as a middle name?

Does it count if we spell Jaelyn like that, with the Ae- since her name is AeCha? :) Reaching here. I know.

The only first name i like on your list is Malin (spelled this way). I really dislike Jaelyn. If you want to incorporate sounds/letters from your mom's name here's one (might be a stretch)

Ayla

but I suggest instead to use a name that still represents your mother but doesn't have to changed around so much. Like her birth month, her favorite flower, her favorite writer, etc...examples:

April Hosannah

Violet Hosannah

Jane Hosannah

etc.

I can honestly say that I hate Jaelyn.

I don't like your first name options at all--they all look misspelled (and therefore stupid).

I like Hosannah as a MN. I'm into word names and I'm into out-of-the-box MNs. I don't think you should use the name AeCha just because you told your mom you would (I'm assuming a long time ago). But if you (and DH) really want to use it, I think you should eliminate Hosannah as a MN. Family names trump 'we just like it" in my book.

I agree. I don't like any of the fn options you mentioned either.

What about just "May" or Mae as a first name if the month is that important to you? Or:

Maeve

Mavis

Mabel

Macy

Maisie

Maia

I think you got a lot of responders that don't have the same tastes. I like Jaelyn. There are plenty of names that use the 'ae'; personally, I'm considering Baelyn. :

I don't find that it looks misspelled, or 'stupid', and I think it flows just fine with your chosen middle name.

Or since your mother's name is pronounced AyJah, you could do something like Aylin, similar to your FN choices listed.

I really like Hosannah and since you like it so much I wish you could use it for the first name!  Do you think she'll be called "Ho" as just a normal nn or do you think it will be used to tease?  I can see the tease part, but not the normal shortening part... It's just a weird nn and can't think people would do it intentionally when they know it's not her "given" nn (Zanna). I'd like to see you use Hosannah!  I like all names that sound that way... I have a Johanna.  And I liked Shoshanna too (heard it in a movie and it stuck... never would use it, but always thought about it).

I think Hosannah is cool as a middle name.

Of your options, I'd go Malin....the rest just aren't my cup of tea at all. I really dislike names that have the -ae in them, they look very harsh.

If you really like the thought of your daughter having a similar name to her dad I could suggest:

Jada

Jacinda

Jade

Jasmine

I think you are trying to incorporate alot into one name.  I think you and your H have to pick what is most important to you.  What about Mae Hosannah? (Month, Ae from AeCha and then your chosen middle name)  Or you could do a double MN if you wanted to use Mae/May/Malen (but Malen seems so made up along with Jaelyn) then AeCha Hosannah.  I would focus on maybe what is most important to you.  You could have another daughter, you could have only 1 daughter, or all boys...you never know!

THIS. Also, I LOVE Hosannah. It's pretty and traditional, and I've never heard it for a name before. But all your FN options seem kind of made up and trendy, which doesn't match at all.

I think you should use Hosannah as the fn, especially if you plan to call her by it. Learn from my mistake. We named our son Edward Liam. Won't go into the story behind the names, but we call him Liam.  Everyone calls him Liam. 1st day of school, his preK teacher insists on calling him Edward. My son won't respond to that name. I fought with this very stubborn teacher every day. She wouldn't budge. It got ugly. Had to transfer him to another room. We're in the process of legally changing his name now.

Also went thru this myself growing up. My name is Alma Corina. Family calls me Corina. Was called Alma in school. To this day people call me by both names. I have family members that have no idea my first name is Alma.
