Baby shower theme question

What are some of your opinions on who chooses the theme of the baby shower? The hostess or the MTB?

The hostess;  however, it is not uncommon for the hostess to ask the MTB for input. That being said, anytime I've asked when I hosted, the MTB said whatever I decided would be fine.

Agree with PPs that hostess gets to decide.  I always ask MTB, but that's me....

Just like PP's have said, the hostess picks the theme. Anytime I've hosted I have asked what MTB thinks, and my hostesses have (already) asked me what theme I would like.

IMO it shouldn't ever really be a big issue, at least in my case, anyone who would/will be throwing me a shower knows what I like. They wouldn't do anything ridiculous (not that a "theme" is super important to begin with).

My sister and mom will be throwing me the baby shower and I would hope they ask what I would like. Maybe I will leave subtle hints about what I like, lol.

My BFF/hostess asked me and I told her no theme was fine, just pink and or pastel colors. Ultimately it is up to the hostess.

On the subject, distinctly recall planning a specific theme for my sister's shower and it was the hugest PITA finding plates, decorations, a baker that would make the cake with that theme. Isn't it easier not having a theme at all?

Most of the showers I've been to were themed to fit the nursery, that way the MTB can keep all the decorations and use them to put in the nursery. I know with my shower over the weekend, I got tons of little safari animals to take home and set up in the nursery. They were used on mini diaper cakes on the tables

Hostess. It's her party and an over-involved MTB is just tacky.

That said, the hostess should be close enough to be able to guess what would make the MTB happy.

The hostess decides since she is the one paying.  She might ask the MTB if there is something specific she wants but otherwise it is her decision.  I don't recall asking any of the MTB's I've hosted for and I've hosted a lot of showers.  I really do know the MTB's pretty well...usually know what they have planned for the nursery or what their feelings are regarding certain things and keep that in consideration.

As a hostess I do find it is easier to go with a theme unless it is something way out there...to the point of not being able to find things/

Hostess.

However, when I host a shower I'm very aware of trying to pick a theme or colors I know the MTB would like. I'll ask about what she likes and go from there.

I thought it usually coincided with the theme of the nursery.  I fully intend on "Baby Lion King" if there are any boys growing in me - I know they make a ton of cute nursery stuff AND shower stuff for that.  :)

 Agreed. Technically I'd say the hostess decides the theme, but the considerate thing to do would be to check with the MTB for the reason stated above.   My shower (and more importantly, the shower invite) was done in a safari theme, so I got a TON of safari-themed gifts.  But our already-completed nursery has got nothing to do with anything safari. 

We can use - and appreciate - the gifts, but I can't say I'm really enamoured with any of them.

Every aspect of the shower is up to the host(s) unless they ask for input from the MTB - even then they aren't obligated to do what the MTB suggests.
