Aryell

eye roll this is the solution my 18 YO SIL came up with to the conflict DH and I are having over Ariel vs. Arielle. I say I don't like the Elle ending because its trendy, yes I know it's the feminine form... DH says Ariel is a totally different name and Arielle is pronounced the way he likes. SIL threw this out and my eyes bulged out of my head! Lol

Funny, I would pronounce Aryell as R-Yell.

I pronounce Ariel and Arielle the same, actually.

I met an Airyelle once. That's almost as bad!

I like Arielle better, but I understand where you're coming from on the "elle" trend.

I didn't think Ariel and Arielle had different pronunciations, but I do think either one can be said air-ee-el or are-ee-el. I prefer the Ariel spelling.

I pronounce them differently, the way most others have already writen.

I prefer the 'elle' ending it sounds better and it is just more feminine and has a better flow.

This makes sense. When I told my cousin who is in her early 20's, that I thought the name Ariella sounded too much like areola, she solved the problem by spelling "Ariellah" instead. See how that changes the whole name? Yea, me neither.

I voted for Arielle, ftr. I just think it looks pretty on paper.

Me too, I'd pronounce them the way he says. I also see Ariel as more masculine, despite the Little Mermaid connection (which might be good to distinguish your daughter from anyways?), because of the character in the Tempest and I know a male named Ariel.

So even with the "elle" trendiness, I'd actually agree with your DH go with Arielle, especially if that's the way you want it pronounced. It is a really pretty name and isn't one of the more popular or widely used "elle" names.

Yes, dear, Mommy and Daddy Aryelling because your name is dumb. I think I would say Ariel and Arielle differently. Subtly different but different. I prefer Ariel.

Does she know whether the baby is a boy or girl? Because Ariel is a man's name; the former prime minister if Israel is named Ariel.

The y is just tragic- at first glance it looks like :Argyle:

I had to respond to this since my name is Arielle. Arielle is the french spelling and pronunciation of the hebrew name Ariel. They ARE pronounced differently, my name sounds like Air-ee-ELL, where as the spelling Ariel sounds like AIR-ee-ul. There was a girl in the same grade as me with the Ariel spelling, everyone always wanted to pronounce my name the same as hers, and I was forever correcting people. I'm not sure why but people seem to have the hardest time with this name no matter what the spelling. If someone sees my name written down and is able to pronounce it correctly the first time it's a miracle, and does not happen often. I'm not trying to discourage you from using this name, as it is beautiful and very underused, and once people know how to say it they often tell me it's the most gorgeous name they've ever heard, but if you want it to be pronounced a certain way, I would go with a more phonetic spelling. My mom often wishes that she had!
