Anterior placenta and movement?

Hi Ladies,

I posted this on my birth month board but thought some of you might have some experience with this as well. I hope you don't mind if I post this here too.

I went in this morning for an emergency u/s due to spotting/cramping. Luckily everything was fine and it was due to a UTI they suspect.

We did find out way are expecting our third boy!!! And also that I have an anterior placenta. I was starting to wonder as I've not felt much for movement this time around and I'm 18 weeks. What I've felt so far as been very "muffled" and mostly on the lower sides near my hip bones. I was kind of disappointed at this because I've read that you can barely feel movement at all with an anterior placenta? Of course I'm very grateful things are fine but I'm wondering if its like this the whole pregnancy or if the movement just takes longer to get more distinct? I love feeling the baby move and was really looking forward to it. Did you find having a placenta placed this way "dulled" the movements the whole pregnancy or just at the beginning when they're smaller?

Thanks for any info!

Mine is anterior and I really felt movement around 22 weeks. After that I felt it all the time! I think it's just those early kicks that are hard to feel.

I definitely feel movement, just as frequently as I did with my first. However, the movements are much more...subtle? Maybe not the word i'm looking for but with DS, I thought he might bust through my belly a few times, and I don't  have that feeling this time around.

I get tons of hard kicks way down low and a few up in my ribs, but very rarely do I feel kicks in the middle of my belly (where I assume the anterior placenta is). And when I do they're more like rolls then strong kicks.

Thank you so much for your replies!! That's very encouraging.

I totally what you get by "subtle". With my first 2, I felt like they were going to bust through too! So far, the movements have been very light. I'm only 18 weeks but its definitely more subtle than it was with my boys.

I'm so glad to hear most of you can still feel a lot of movement. That is really encouraging!

I had an anterior placenta with my first child (I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant with my 2nd). I felt movement around 20ish weeks. It definitely got stronger throughout pregnancy and I would say that the movement in my current pregnancy has been very similar to my first with only a minor difference. (I do not have an anterior placenta with this one.)

The ultrasound tech said I have an AP, but I haven't noticed much different this time around than with DS.

Early on though it felt like I had way more inside movements than outside movements. It felt more like baby was moving/kicking toward my back or down toward my lady bits rather than out behind my belly button. Now that baby is a lot bigger I'm definitely getting a lot of outside kicks and movements too.

But I'm pretty sure I'm not the norm for an AP.

I have (or had - not sure if it's moved) an anterior placenta.  I started feeling movement near the end of week 18 - all of it in my lower belly until I was probably around week 26 and now all over my belly.  My baby is a cage fighter.  His/her movements are super strong and really frequent.

I have an anterior as well, by 20 weeks I was feeling her and man am I glad I have that additional padding because I get daily beatings from this little girl!!  Maybe it also depends on weight before pregnancy?  I am tall and thin.  All I know is if this is muffled feelings then I have no idea how the rest of you survive!!

I had anterior placenta with DD and only felt subtle movements throughout my entire pregnancy. I would have to be sitting very still and paying attention to feel her at all. There were times near the end when I could see my stomach moving from the outside but could barely feel anything from the inside. I felt more movement with this LO starting at 17 weeks than I ever felt from DD.

I was anterior with my son. I didn't feel him until 22 weeks. His movements were dull and inconsistent for a long time but as he got bigger, I definitely felt him. He was fond of kicking me in the ribs, HARD!

I'm in the same boat!  The only thing I liked about being pregnant was feeling LO move, and I felt him so early last time. This time my placenta is anterior and I'm still not feeling much. Bummer!

I had AP with 1. I didn't feel much of anything for a long time. What I ended up feeling was more soft flutters in the beginning. They got stronger but are nothing compared to the bursting from the belly movement I get with 2. I'm sure you will feel more and more.
