16 Months TTC and still don't know whats wrong

My husband and I have been TTC for #1 since October 2011. I am a smoker (I know, I know), he never has been. I'm 27 and DH is 28. We are both very healthy, although I could lose a couple pounds. Tried for about 8-9 months the old fashioned way. I then started noticing a lot more abdominal pain during AF. Went to the OBGYN and got some blood tests done as well as 2 ultra sounds. After all the hurry up and wait of the testing process my doctor and I both came to the conclusion that I have Endo (Mom and G-ma both had it and had hystos at a young age, 37 & 32 respectively). Had laperoscopic surgery 2 weeks ago to positively diagnose endo and do a chromo-tubation. Found 3 spots of endo (bladder wall, right ovary, and tendon holding uterus). Also found a blood clot and medium cyst on the same ovary. I go back to talk to the doctor tomorrow for my post-op, but my husband told me that the doctor still doesn't know why I can't conceive. Everything looked fine as far as baby making parts. I have researched natural supplements to boost fertility and other things I can do to try and make this happen naturally. We can't afford IVF or any other form of fertility treatment. Not sure where to go from here. I know I am ovulating, but I am starting to think my eggs might not be viable. Any advice on what to do next?

I dont really have much advice other than ask your dr what they suggest you try. Schedule a consult with a RE just to hear what they have to say and or offer. Not all treatments are as expensive as IVF. If you have insurance they sometimes cover diagnostics, some meds, ect. There are also organizations that give funding for things like this. Sometimes there are clinical studies that you can join that cuts cost. I also have endo (so did my mom with a hysterectomy at 32) but its not really contributing to my IF. It had adhered my colon to the abdominal wall, so it affected my GI system more than my reproductive plumbing. You should also have your husbands fish checked to make sure the problem isnt on his end. Good luck to you.

Hopefully when you meet with your doctor tomorrow you can get some more answers. However, according to my RE, smoking can cause you to have problems with egg quality. So since you are not even 30 - I would probably start there.

Good luck!

Ditto what the PP's have said. As for the smoking- my RE won't even treat you until you've been nicotine free for 90 days so I would really think about quitting. GL to you.

Sounds like your Ob/Gyn was a good place to start, but it's definitely time to move on to a RE.  Endo can be 1 part of the problem, but you're going to want them to check hormone levels at different points in your cycle and your husband needs to have an SA.  Even if some of the more costly treatments aren't feasible, having a better idea of what's going on will help you use the money you do have as effectively as possible.

TTC since August 2010
DH diagnosed with Azoospermia in January 2012
Vas reconstruction surgery in April 2012; unsuccessful
IVF with ICSI February 2013; single blastocyst 5dt
First beta March 1 is 147!!!

I would recommend your husband gets SA done. I thought for a long time that it was me until we were proven otherwise.
