Tilted uterus

Hi everyone,

I just found out in my 12 week genetic test ultrasound that I have a tilted uterus.  I googled it when I got home and am kind of nervous, they said if it does not correct itself in the next week or two I could miscarry.  Is the internet just scaring me? Do any of you have this?

TIA!

When I had my ultrasound done at 8 weeks, the doc said my uterus was tilted and that it could just make it more difficult to find the heartbeat but expressed no concern whatsoever. I've had a perfectly normal pregnancy with no issues and even have no problems finding the heartbeat on the home doppler. I'd say unless your OB was concerned, you shouldn't be. Hope that helps you feel better! And as many others will tell you, try to stay off google because you'll end up freaked out about everything!

I have one too, but no one has ever said its problematic. Some times it takes an extra minute to do a pap, but that's about it.

Did the doc say anything concerning? I'd stay off Google at all costs! :

Thanks guys! The u/s tech said she could not tell me anything about the baby or anything, and that the doctor has to for liability reasons. She asked me if I have back pain, and I said no. Google is scary!  The baby has all of it's legs, arms, feet, and hands and looked normal to me.  I go to my doctor next week and will ask more there. I had a sonogram done at 8 weeks and my doctor did not mention this to me, I am assuming it would have been tilted then also.

I hate that about the techs not being able to say anything! Especially if you have to wait a week to see the doc!

It's likely you've had tilted uterus a while, I don't think it's something that moves around all that much. I've always had the doc doing a pap tell me, so it's not a surprise. Is this the first you've heard about it?

Early in my first labor, the doc said my cervix was very high and tilted, but it moved down on its own without incident.

Yes, this is the first I have heard of it.  Ugh. I hope it moves into normal position in the next few days.

Um I have tilted uterus and I've never been told it puts me at risk for miscarriage. I'd get a second opinion pronto.

My doctor has not said that, just googling because the u/s tech could not say anything. I am glad to hear the responses that it is no big deal. :-)

I have one too, didn't even know it with my first pregnancy. I asked the US tech about it (who is also a friend from school, so maybe thats why she answered my question) and she said its no big deal. They are actually quite common. She also said they naturally tip into place once the baby is heavy enough.

Mine is retroverted. Around 20% of women have some sort of tipped/tilted uterus. It does not cause miscarriage, so relax!

I had a tilted uterus with my third . I wasn't aware of it till I was around 16 weeks when my midwife couldn't find the top of the uterus and that it was most likely tilted. Mine corrected itself by 21 weeks . Most of them do. I haven't heard of them causing miscarriage .

I've always had a tilted uterus and my doctors have always said it wouldn't affect my ability to have/carry children. And it hasn't. I'm on kiddo #2 and the position of my uterus hasn't been an issue at all.

I too have a retroverted uterus. It righted itself by 12 weeks, but my doc said it could still flip back and forth. No need to worry, as others have said. They have not had any trouble finding the heartbeat with a doppler thus far, though they had warned me that it might be an issue. I read that crap about the miscarriage thing too, but I don't know if there's really medical research backing the claim.

Hi! At my 12 week appointment is when they discovered that I had a tilted uterus too. So they had a hard time getting measurements and I had to go back a week later. Luckily by the time I went back it did correct itself and was a lot easier (less pressure) during the ultrasound. Don't worry! I know I googled it and freaked myself out too and in just a week all was well.

I don't know what site you are reading, but I have a tilted uterus and my doctor told me it was nothing to worry about at all. He actually told me that pregnancy can actually correct a tilted uterus, although it doesn't happen to every woman. I wouldn't worry about it at all. If anything you stressing about it is going to "do more harm" than your uterus. Congrats on your pregnancy though!

When I had my first pap ever done my doctor told me that I was tilted and said that it was likely passed down from another family member. She told me that it only effects a small percentage, well as the years have went on I've talked to my gf's about it and almost EVERY single one of them has some kind of tilt.

I think it's actually more the norm now! lol I'm 20 weeks along today and I've had no issues w/mine and it was even a severe tilt. My dr said that generally with pregnancy it corrects itself over the course of the pregnancy and he's been in the business for 20+ years so I trust he's seen it all! AND my aunt had 4 children and she's actually the one that I take after and she has the tilted uterus. No biggie though! The internet can be misleading. :)

I have a tilted uterus and the doctor said nothing about miscarriage or it causing any complications.

He did tell me that I was born that way (with TU), that it would take a little longer than normal to feel the baby move/kick, and that it will usually tilt itself into the correct position before delivery, but if not, no big deal.

American Pregnancy Association says:

How can a tipped uterus affect my pregnancy?

Usually between the 10th -12th week of pregnancy, your uterus will no longer be tipped or “backwards.” This should cause no difficulty for the pregnancy or for labor and birth. If the uterus does not move into a “middle” position, miscarriage can occur, but this is very rare.

Google is the devil and will only scare you. I have a tilted ute too and was never told anything bad about it. I asked the OB what it meant and he said "some people have blue eyes, some people have brown eyes, some people have a tilted uterus." It's NBD. I wouldn't worry.

I'm beginning to think a tilted uterus is more common than originally thought. Just in my family alone: my mom, my grandma, my aunt, my cousin, 2 of my sisters and myself all have tilted uteruses. And that's just on one side of the family. I've been told by several OBGYNs over the years that mine was so I was not aware it could right itself at any time. However, my doctor had a little bit of a difficult time finding the heartbeat until my 13th week so that was a stressful wait. He checked 3 times prior to that and nothing. You can imagine how relieved we were to hear it finally! But it doesn't seem to have much to do with feeling the kicks, I tell ya. Started feeling those at 16 weeks exactly and they haven't let up. :)

I also found out durring my 6 week US that I had a tilted uterus. The Tech informed me and it was confirmed by my OB later on, that it has no bearings on whether or not I will have a healthy pregnancy or not. They said it might make the heartbeat harder to find but we saw it at 6 weeks and hadn't had any problems finding the baby or heartbeat since. I also have been feeling the baby moving since week 14. I don't believe it's anything to worry about but alwyas good to check with your doctor.

I have one and had no problems with my first pregnancy.  Once your uterus gets bigger it won't be tilted.  It does make it a little trickier for U/S and dopplers at first.
