XP- Registry Question

How many items did you have on your registry??

I am thinking maybe I didn't put enough since I've seen other people with literally around 100 things on there's and mine has no where near that.. But honestly SO and I bought all of the necessities already, so whatever I did put on there was just a few things that 'would be nice' to have. I didn't want to go overboard because I figure if someone wants to buy something like a book or an outfit or whatever, they can pick one they want to give, rather than have me dictate those sorts of things.. Plus after reading a lot of other posts it seems a lot of people dont shop off of registries anyways!

Ahhh I dont know... I'm just starting to second guess myself with not putting a lot of things on it and would like some thoughts...I'm probably over analyzing..

Thanks!

If I remember correctly, I had 60- something items.

I don't think there is a "right" amount, do what you think feels appropriate for you.

There is no right or wrong way to do a registry.  I mean you could add books and clothes as a way to get the word out that you like books and clothes, but it doesn't necessarily have to be that way.

Our Target registry has 90 something items. But, I put stuff on there that DH and I have bought, and show it as purchased so that people don't say, "oh, she didn't register for a baby tub and she needs one, so I'll get her this one..."

And if you want to add more things in a variety of price points, you can always add diapers, wipes, gas drops, baby bath soaps....that kind of stuff.

I think I had 90ish items, but I put EVERYTHING on there and then deleted stuff as DH and I made purchases.

I think a rule of thumb is to have 2-3 items under $30 for each guest invited to the shower so guests will have plenty of options to choose from.  If the items are really small, like pacis or bottles of lotion, you may want to add some more for people that would put together a basket or diaper cake.

Good question.

I've got about 30 on my BRU and 10 or so on my Amazon. Some items duplicate, for the sake of convenience. I've also been buying things myself and wanted it reflected, like PP said, that I already have certain things.

I've been wondering the same thing.  I just did mine, and there's about 60 items and there will probably only be about 20-25 people at my shower.  I didn't know if that was excessive and I didn't want people to think I actually expect to receive all of that... It's all small items though because we have already made all the big purchases.  The little things add up fast!  At least they will have a variety of items to choose from, if they decide to buy from the registry.

In addition to this, I was thinking since some retailers offer a completion discount it may be worth it to load up your registry with essentials.

We pretty evenly split things between two local stores.  I think between them both, there are just over 100 things which sounds like a ton but we tried hard to make it cover a broad range of price points.  We have 2 upcoming showers with about 40 people at each and knew if we didn't have enough on there for people to pick from, we'd hear about it!  I'm sure we have friends and family who prefer to shop from the registry directly and others who will blaze their own trails so it seemed like a good target to shoot for to give people and idea of what kinds of things we'd like or what our style sort of is.  If there is too little on there, people seem to get creative which could be awesome, or not so much.

I ended up treating my registry as a shopping list as well as an wish list. I ended up having about 100 items between both registries. I didn't register for any clothes except for socks, sleep sacks and bibs. Now that my shower is over I was able to update my registry and use it as a shopping list for our reference for what I still need for the small stuff (bottles, breast feeding stuff etc.).

Thanks everyone! I feel pretty good about things now. We aren't having a huge shower, so I think my registry has enough of a range of items and price points to please everyone.

I appreciate the feedback! And like PPs said, if nothing is purchased at least it does make for a good shopping list! Smile

Take care!!

This is what I was thinking. I'm going to add everything to mine, mark things are purchased like PP's have said, and use the completion coupon to finish up after my showers! :)

But if you already have everything, I don't think a small registry is a bad thing. Especially if you're not having a huge shower.

I use my Amazon registry as a wish list/ shopping list for myself. It has over 100 items, though probably 20 of those are books and book anthologies. I also have lots of cloth diapers and diapering supplies which adds to the items. I don't particularly expect anyone to buy that stuff, but I do want people to know what type of things we're interested in, and I want to use the completion discount on everything. I think as long as you put things you actually need and want and would buy on your own anyway, it doesn't really matter if you have 50 or 100.

I think it depends on how many baby showers/family size that will get you gifts as well. If you have 4showers being planned for you with 20guests each then I could see easily having a very large registry. If you only have one with 15people than I would use it for the completer coupon. We've had offers for 3showers so I'm putting more smaller things, including books (Not as cards), and smaller items that can really add up if we were to buy them ourselves.

I have about 120 items on three registries.  I have a friend shower hosted by my sister for about 40 ppl.  They have been told about two registries (Target and Amazon).  MIL is hosting another shower and it is about 35 ppl.  This has a higher price point and will have two registries (Amazon and another for furniture).  I also have a ton of low priced items (bibs, lotions, etc) which bumps up the number.

Honestly I think my registries are out of control but DH is a little nutty sometimes.  We will get what we get and we will decide on the rest.
