Clothes storage

So we now have almost a year's worth of DD's clothes piling up in the attic and it has me wondering what people do with all the old baby clothes... I have been hanging on to everything for when/if we have another but it's starting to get to be a lot of bins up there!  DD doesn't have a closet in her room so storage is a pain.  So do you keep everything?  Get rid of it all?  Sell it?  Etc?

With DD I kept everything. Looking back I wish I had gotten rid of the things that were the most worn or that I just didn't like very much. #2 was a boy so I've been going through the old tubs of DD's clothes and a lot of it just needs to be thrown away.

DS is our first and until we decide when/if to have a second I have kept everything except the things that were too worn or stained to be salvaged. However we didn't have an excess to start with. If you really have a lot have you tried space bags or something like them?

I am keeping everything. Sentimental value and also in case we have another girl. :) Some of the clothes I know I won't use again, but I still have them. I just put them in boxes and moved them to the basement. There is a spare bedroom down there I am keeping all of our unused things in.

I kept all of DD clothes because I knew we were having more than 1 child. When I found out 2 was a boy, I went through everything and pulled out what was gender neutral. I have everything else saved.
I also started to save DS clothes. They're all in large tupperwear containers labeled by age.
We're undecided on a third so I'm hanging on the things for now.
Eventually, I go through everything and just save my favorites but I'm having a hard time letting go of it now.

We got a long bin and are storing the clothes under DS's crib. It's full now, so we'll probably get another one and store it under our bed.

I guess I'm the odd man out. I only buy thrift store clothes for my daughter so I have no problem giving them away to women expecting or donating them back to Goodwill. I received a good amount of clothes from the baby shower too so I didn't have to start thrift store shopping until around 5 months.

I have kept 2-3 articles from each period (newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, etc) that we took professional pictures in or were worn a lot. I have a trash bag full of clothes every 3 months or so that I get rid of somehow.

If we have another child, they will be wearing used clothes too! It isn't worth it to store and take up space when the clothes cost me a dollar or less per piece.

I also pulled out neutral clothing and labels each bin by gender and age. This has helped a ton. My sister did this with the clothes we got from her and I know which bin to grab next.

Since this is our first I'm keeping most of her clothes. I bought those space saver bags and label them with the month of clothing. It saves so much room and I just put them in one bin and I'm done.

This is exactly what we have been doing.

I stored all of my first son's in big bins labeled with their sizes.  My mother in law loves to shop, so I have a ton of brand name Gymboree, Children's Place, Carter's, Gap, Old Navy, etc.  Unfortunately, when #2 came, even though he was a boy, too, we were not able to use 1/2 the clothes because they were the wrong season when they would fit him. (#1 was born Dec 1, #2 March 22, so they've been about 1 season off through this first year.)  Now we have 2x the clothes!  I'm trying to store them back up as #2 outgrows a size to hand down to my younger sister when she gets pregnant.  Hopefully she has a boy!

My guys are only 2 years apart, so once the sizes start to space out a little longer and only change every 6 months or so, I'll be able to take #1's outgrown clothes straight to the end of #2's closet for him to grow into and only have #2's outgrown clothes in bins instead of both like I have now.  I think I need the space savers, though!!

I have been saving the ones I love the most---partly for sentimental reasons, partly because I would love another baby. With the clothes that I don't have the space for and didn't really like to begin with, I have been selling through thredup.com. I get credit for the clothes they sell, and then I can buy the next stage of clothes that my LO needs.

I saved each child's coming home outfit and sentimental things like holiday outfits or a birthday outfit. I sell everything else at either yard sales or consignment shops and then donate or pass on whatever I don't sell.  Before #2 came along, I knew that even if it was another girl (it wasn't), I would want new and different clothes.  I love shopping, I even buy majority of it used, so I just didn't feel the need to save it and have it take up space.  I have not been saving DS's clothes either.  You never know if the seasons will match up either.

I'm making a blanket out of my favorites. My DH thinks I'm nuts to cut up her old clothes but so many remind me of a story that I can tell her when she gets older. Each square has a story.
