When did you take your nb out?

My little guy is 2 weeks old and I have no plans on taking him out of the house really until closer to 6 weeks...however, my 6 y.o. DD has an observation day for her dance class tomorrow and I'd really like to go watch and support her. Is it a bad idea to take him to the studio, with plans to keep him in his carrier?

I don't think it's bad at all. I took DD2 out at 2 wks, we went to our in laws 2 hours away. They do pretty well, and getting out of the house helps to keep you a little sane! We go out once a week at a minimum, whether it be just for a walk or to the store. She is 7 weeks now.

We took DD our the first week. We just kept her in a carrier or in the carseat and stroller with both shades pulled so no one could see or touch her.

This exactly.  Life must go on, just take precautions.  Have fun at the dance studio!

I took my newborn out fairly soon and regularly. However, I was wary to have her be in daycare until she absolutely has to start. As soon As DS started going he got sick and it continued for months.

We went to my mom's and my in-laws house once before her 1 month appt.  After that appt, I have taken her out a few times shopping (just to quick stops like to BRU or to the supermarket to get a few things.)  I think it was more for my own sanity though... I *HAD* to get out of the house!!!

I have my PP check up tomorrow and I am taking her but leaving DS with my mom.  Can't wait for him to see her again! :)

I think it's fine. You can't live in a bubble especially with an older child.

With my first DS, he went to a doctors appointment at 6 days old and to the grocery store at 8 days old. Christmas Eve mass at 9 days and xmas eve and day with both sides of families at 9 and 10 days.

Thanks for the advice and opinions.  I took DD out and about much sooner when she was a nb, I have just been extra freaked out with a winter baby and flu season.  I look forward to getting out of the house!

We started taking DD out occasionally during her first week. She got sick for the first time at 2 months and is still fighting it a month later. I don't think we should become hermits for fear of our babies getting sick, but it's never too early and it will never be "long enough" to be careful. Sanitizer, hand washing, and being careful who touches and holds him makes a huge difference, but staying home 24/7 will probably cause more damage to you than going out will do to him.

I took out my DS at 2 weeks and have pretty much every day since. I just leave him in his car seat with a blanket draped over it so that no one can breath on him or touch him. We also have a 6 year old and she is always in his face right after school...I'm guessing he gets more sick germs from her than from going out to the store with me completely covered.

I wouldn't hesitate to go! Enjoy yourself.

We took her out at 2-3 weeks for a family birthday party. Since then, we've also been to a wedding and have gotten back into our Sunday church routine. Oh, and of course a few walks and a little fresh air. She is 5 weeks old.

We have a 2 year old DD and I still want to maintain some sense of normalcy and family activity for her sake. I keep DD2 in the Moby wrap and she usually just sleeps the whole time...im definitely not passing her around for people to hold or look at or anything. Its been just fine.

We went to Target today.  I just cover the carseat.  I think it would be fine unless there are obviously sick people there coughing/etc.

My LO has been out and about almost every day since she was born. No issues.

Since I am EBF I took DD with me to my chiropractor at 1 week old. We'd had a 5 day stay in the hospital and I needed my back & hips/pelvic adjusted ASAP. Then at 2 weeks I went to a mommy support group. We've introduced a bottle finally so I'm able to leave her at home if I've remembered to pump or set some out to defrost in advance. But most days it's just easier to take her with me.
