WDYT: Family Names

We're not pregnant yet, but I've been looking thru family names lately. These are a few of the names that I would love to use...

Eleanor - This was my great grandmother's name. I never had the chance to meet her because she was dead by the time I was born. Anyway, I'd love to use the name Eleanor for a future DD. My husband and I like the NN Ellie, but is it too popular? We're also considering Nell/Nellie as NN.

Audrey - This is my grandma's name. We'd probably use it as a MN. The only thing is that my cousin has already used it as MN for her DD. Not a big deal, but still...

Autumn - This is my younger sister's MN. I think that it's lovely. Would it be weird to use it as MN for a future DD?

William - I *think* that this is my grandpa's MN. I'd have to check first. We'd probably be using it as MN for a future DS.

WDYT of these names? Suggestions? TIA! :)

I love both Audrey and Eleanor, both a beautiful and classic. Although I would use Nora as a NN, Ellie is a little overused for my taste.

I am really liking Audrey Eleanor.

I am not a fan of the name Autumn, and William is a classic that you can't go wrong with.

I like them all.  My DD and niece are 3 months apart and share a middle name.  It's not awkward in any way.

I'd rather not use Audrey as FN, but WDYT of Eleanor Audrey?

ETA: Our last name begins with a W and rhymes with Bourne.

Love Audrey and William- have B/G twins and use them both. I have a bunch of old lady aunts on my father's side of the family who were named in the last wave of Iberian-themed names- Rita, Rosa, Dolores, and Eleanor so I'm sort of over that. Besides, between the Ellies, Nellies and Noras it's trending up.

I like Eleanor best, and I think both Nora and Nell/Nellie are adorable.

I think I would have trouble counting William as a family name if you sort of think it was grandpa's middle name. That sounds like it's a remote association that other people in your family might not recognize as an attempt to use a family name. It's a perfectly nice name — I just don't think it gets the extra bonus star of "family name" if it's not easily recognizable to you or members of your family.

That's a good point.

However, I still like the idea of honoring my grandpa. It's just that his FN (Harm) is awful, IMO. And I'm about 99.9% sure that his MN is William...

Yeah, that's a pretty terrible fn. I find it sort of reassuring, though, to know that awful names are not a modern invention.

Love Eleanor and Audrey.  William is a solid, classic boy's name you can't go wrong with.  Autumn is NMS (for a first name at least).

I like all of them and would use any as first names. If theyre family names they are fair game. A phatom future son would have the same FN as my nephew's MN and my H's cousin. Its not a big deal ESPECIALLY if only for MNs

This. Except I like Eleanor as a FN.

Also, Ellie is used as a NN for a lot of names so she'll probably get asked what it stands for often. I think Eleanor is pretty as itself, no NN needed.

I think Eleanor is my favorite of those girl names. Ellie is way better than Nellie in my opinion. And William is always a good name.
