gross motor delays in my almost 1 year old?

My dd will be 1 year in 3 weeks. She cannot get into a sitting position on her own, she cannot yet pull to stand either. She can put weight on her legs and "stand" when I am holding her, but doesn't like to do it. She isn't cruising or walking either, obviously. My pedi wants me to call EI. I am familiar with EI since my son has special needs and was in the program until he aged out. But should I be concerned? How delayed is she ? Everything else seems ok, she is social, babbling, fine motor seems ok too. Just not sure how worried I should be...

I want to tell you that you are not alone. I am in a similar position.

DS will be 1 at the end of March and he sounds a lot like your DD. He can't get into a sitting position, can't pull up or cruise and doesn't crawl, scoot or army crawl in any way. My pedi told me she doesn't worry unless a child hits 1 and isn't crawling yet. She watched DS play on his tummy and was encouraged by the fact while he is sitting he can lean way over to pick something up and then use his tummy muscles to sit back up. She likes that he can spin on his belly while laying down if he wants something. Does your DD do those things?

Hopefully if you see EI they will be able to reassure you. Fingers crossed that both of our kiddos get mobile very soon.

My DD is a bit younger but sounds like that too.  I wouldn't be too worried but go in with an open mind to the EI.

Sometimes a minor issue can be prevented from turning into a bigger one if it is caught early enough.  It might be nothing, but sometimes a few simple exercises or something can make a big difference.  It wouldn't hurt to get it checked out if Pedi mentioned it.

My DD will be one this week.  She only started getting into a sitting position on her own shortly after she turned 11 months and when she was first doing it she would do it by going through the splits rather than rolling to her side or pushing up over her knees.  It was a few days after that when she started crawling with belly off the ground.  So we were referred to Early Intervention.  An initial screening showed her eligible for services, but we were told that due to her rapid progress from not getting to sitting on her own to crawling in just a few days she might not be eligible after her more in-depth screening next month.  That said our assigned person said to continue with the process because it doesn't hurt and it might help even if she isn't really delayed.

I would try EI.  My first LO had gross motor delays.  It took a few months of EI, but it worked.  Now, at almost 3, she is totally on track for everything and advanced in other areas.

My DS cannot get himself into sitting.  He also does not pull up on furniture but can pull up using your fingers.  He does not crawl or stand independently.  He does cruise and can take 5-6 steps at a time but will only do so between DH and I.  That being said, he is scheduled for an EI evaluation for physical therapy next week.  Everything else is right on track (fine motor, cognitive and speech).

My DD is enrolled in EI. We currently receive physical therapy and are in the process of re-applying for OT and speech. She will be 10 months on 3/1 and she's not babbling, waving, clapping etc. She is doing an army crawl type crawl but cannot pull up, get into sitting and she just learned to roll this week.

Just wanted to say that there is no harm in contacting EI and getting an evaluation. Only good can come of it. Either your child will not qualify and then you have the peace of mind that they aren't that delayed, or they will qualify and you will catch any problems early enough that they can be resolved.

I know it's hard not to worry but try to take it one day at a time. Great progress can come from starting EI. Good luck!
